Yesterday, I was standing in the Pomeroy courthouse upper level looking at the Mighty Ohio River as it had taken over Main Street. I could see the current was strong and it made me think about how quickly storms change plans.
No business on Main Street intended to pack up in 2 days and just wait. They were left to wait, watch, and pray that the storm was calmed.
When you think about storms, they almost always cancel or change plans. Canceled flights. Ball games postponed. Businesses closed. Schools closed or delayed. Vacation plans changed. Important appointments rescheduled. And so on. But what about storms in life?
Have you ever gone through a season of life that felt like a raging storm? You may have felt like a dark cloud was following you around. It may have felt like ocean waves knocking you down. It seemed like no matter what you did the rain kept pouring and the wind speeds keep picking up. Maybe you are in season of storms right now. When these raging storms enter our hearts, minds, and lives we see disaster. We see all that we hoped for changing. We see our life being turned upside down. We see the future we had planned canceled.
But what if your storm is actually keeping you on course?
Nahum 1:3 says, “…The Lord has His way in the whirlwind and the storm, and the clouds are the dust beneath His feet.”
The storm you are facing isn’t your whole story it’s a season and it too shall pass. It will pass, because God is in the storm with you. God is using what you are going through now to prepare or keep you on course for what he has in store for you. It’s building strength and courage to embrace the future God has planned.
He may send a storm to change OUR plans because HIS plans are greater. He may send a storm to change OUR plans because HIS lesson is more important. The storm has a purpose and it’s NOT your destination it’s your journey to your destination.
Paul faced many storms, but regardless of the storms he faced he ended up exactly where God intended. You will too.
I don’t know the storm you are facing, but I do know the God that’s standing with you. He is a God of healing and restoration. He is a God of grace. He is a God of love. God is stronger than the storm.
In the dark moments, when the storm feels excruciating remember God is for you. He never promised the path to be easy. He never promised for calm waters. But he did promise to never forsake you.
Stay the course. Your smooth sailing is coming.
With Love,
T♥️
Father God,
I don’t have to say it, you already know this one is as much for me as anyone reading it. God, I pray that anyone in the midst of a raging storm right now finds peace in knowing you have a plan. Let us be reminded that you see our pain and already know what is on the other side of it. Lord, please reduce fear in knowing we are not alone. God give us courage and endurance to stay the course during the storm. Let us hear your voice. I pray that through the pain of the storm you help us to be a vessel for your kingdom, comfort for those in similar situations. Jesus, I pray that you help those in the storm find the circle of friends that will uplift them, pray for them, and encourage them to stay the course. God when life is hard you are still good, keep that in our hearts and guard it. I pray those in the storm are reminded that calm waters and smooth sailing is on the horizon. That our God is in control. Your beautiful plan is on the other side. You are the author of our stories. You are victorious. You are the almighty. You are love. You are faithful. Father, I know these are just storms and they will not last forever. Thank you for that. Thank you for your goodness. Thank you for your plan. Thank you for your protection. We love you lord.
Amen.
"The pain that you've been feeling can't compare to the joy that's coming." Romans 8:18
